The Fit Family New Years Resolution

Fit family

Most new year's resolutions involve individuals who have indulged a little bit too much during the festive season declaring that they will apply all their efforts into making this year the best year yet when it comes to their weight. While we commend these types of declarations we often see them fade around mid-February (Don't worry, it happens to the best of us). In general, fitness-related new year's resolutions can be tough and we would often suggest to our clients to get someone who can hold them accountable.

With that being said, we thought of a much better and rewarding new year's resolution. Getting the whole family fit and in shape. This way you get to have a whole team, living in the same house to keep one another accountable, to support one another, and to collectively see the rewarding results of a healthier, leaner household.

Trying to achieve your goal weight while having to cook for a household of around five people who don't typically enjoy eating tuna salads for dinner, is an impossible task. This is why a "Fit family" resolution is a great idea. After gaining the approval and commitment from all the members of your household, the rest is easy. Here are a few things you can do to crush this new year's resolution.

Out with the old

We don't know how you are going to explain to your ravenous teenage boy that Steers is not a food group, but you are going to have to. The first step in this resolution is to ditch old eating habits for new, healthy and sustainable eating habits. The best part about this is that it doesn't mean starving yourselves, eating flavorless food, or replacing meals with what looks like lettuce smoothies. Healthy alternatives can be as simple as replacing Simba chips with roasted vegetable crisps, french fries with shoe-strong sweet potato fries, soda with sugar-free drinks, and white bread with whole-wheat or rye bread. Bear in mind that the transition might not be as smooth as you desire but it will definitely be worth it.

Spend time outside

Try to find an activity to do outside that the whole household can enjoy together. Going for a walk around the block, swimming, or playing cricket surely beats sitting on the couch watching mindless reality shows. Even a small increase in physical activity can make a big difference in overall health for everyone. Try to get into a routine that everyone enjoys and stick to it.

Hit the gym

Signing up your family at Fitness Fables will ensure that everyone can still focus on the physical exercise they would like to do. Going to the gym as a group will ensure that everyone stays motivated and gets into a routine to exercise for one hour, three times a week. At Fitness Fables you will find a wide variety of exercises for the whole family. We even have an amazing exercise for kids program where they can start getting into a healthy lifestyle from a young age. We see it all the time, our gym-members mostly come it a team of two and would do the same exercises, motivate one another and leave together and while this "buddy system" is something that works well, it's very hard to maintain especially if you and your buddy aren't living in the same house. This is why you and your household should definitely do the "buddy system" as a group and hit the gym together, motivate one another and see each other's progress and results as months will fly by.

Fitness related new year's resolutions can be a pain in the back and only leave you feeling guilty and frustrated with yourself. So bring up the awkward conversation at the dinner table about how you are going to lead everyone into a fitter 2021 and leaner new year.
